July 31, 2024
By Kat Rendek

CORNWALL ON – A new free training program to support the local food and beverage industry is now available in Cornwall, The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry, and Akwesasne. This initiative offers entrepreneurs specialized training to help them grow their food businesses.

Ontario boasts the largest food and beverage processing sector in Canada, generating 37% of national revenue. The province’s food and beverage manufacturing ranks 3rd in North America. Notably, 28% of Ontario’s establishments have 1-4 employees, with a quarter located in rural communities (Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada [AAFC], 2017).

In partnership with the London Small Business Enterprise Centre, Foodpreneur Advantage is now accepting applications from aspiring food entrepreneurs in eastern Ontario. This unique initiative, previously open to southern Ontario businesses, offers a series of introductory seminars and training opportunities to support entrepreneurs launching their food ventures.

“We are excited to become a participating small business enterprise centre and supporting our local food businesses,” says Shauna Baggs, Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre. “Our region is full of creative culinary ventures, and together with our partners at the London SBEC, Eastern Ontario Agri-Food Network, the City of Cornwall and The United Counties of SDG we look forward to creating an environment which enables business development and provides the opportunity for valuable mentorship.”

Foodpreneur Advantage offers a series of introductory seminars and training opportunities to support entrepreneurs looking to get a start in the industry. The program will connect participants to industry experts and provide mentoring opportunities.
