Primed for future development

The ability of a community to accommodate investment and growth is not always constant. In many cities across Canada and the world, development constraints can impair a company’s ability to succeed.

Cornwall has planned for the future with excess capacity in its water, wastewater and landfill facilities. Local road, electrical, and telecommunication networks have been developed to meet today’s needs as well as those of tomorrow.

Electricity is often a significant cost factor for many companies, and one that is directly related to production. Cornwall has historically enjoyed very competitive electrical costs , providing a very stable and flexible source of power. Also, in recent years, conservation and environmental efforts have helped Cornwall companies become more energy efficient.

Communications Infrastructure

The City of Cornwall is well served by a modern and robust digital communications network. This includes a wide range of high-speed connection options from a variety of service providers.

In general, Cornwall’s telecommunication costs are very competitive. Infrastructure capabilities, however, are often more important than cost alone. Cornwall is physically located on key components of Ontario’s fibre optic network, which is internationally recognized as one of the world’s most technologically advanced.

Fibre Optic and Internet Services

Companies looking to connect to Canada’s information superhighway will now benefit from an expanded and faster “on ramp” in Cornwall, following a significant investment by the Eastern Ontario Regional Network (EORN).

A new 10 Gigabyte Point of Presence (POP) has been installed in Cornwall by EORN, to supplement an already existing POP. This investment increases the capacity by tenfold, improving network availability for businesses and residents.

In addition, the core fibre network in Cornwall and SDG has been recently expanded by EORN as well as other service providers in the past several years, reducing costs and build time for customers looking for fibre-based services.

Internet Service Providers

Cornwall is currently serviced by the following internet service providers:

  • Bell
  • Rogers
  • Cogeco
