Electrical Advantages
Electrical rates in Cornwall are amongst the most affordable in North America, thanks to a long-term contract with Cornwall Electric and Hydro Quebec.
The distribution of electricity is Cornwall is managed by Cornwall Electric. Cornwall’s power comes from hydro generation facilities in Quebec, meaning that Cornwall Electric customers enjoy power from a 100% renewable source. Cornwall Electric has a strong record of providing reliable robust power to meet the needs of local residents and businesses.
Current Rates
Recently Cornwall Electric rates will remain the same until June 2026. Fluctuating wholesale electricity prices have been the largest contributor to price uncertainty in recent years. This new contract provides rate stability and security of supply for more than a decade, allowing Cornwall companies to effectively budget for uninterrupted operations far into the future.
Cost Structure
Like all utilities in Ontario, the wholesale cost of electricity is passed through to customers. This cost represents approximately 80% of a customer’s total bill. The remaining 20% of the customers’ bill represents the distribution charges. These charges pay for operating expenses, system maintenance and equipment replacements to the Cornwall Electric electrical system to deliver a safe and reliable supply of power to customers.
