Manufacturing
Manufacturing is the process where raw materials, parts, and components are used to assemble a new product. Manufacturing businesses employ people and machines to put together the product in a planned way, often moving from one workstation to the next. Some manufacturers make products directly for consumers while others will make components that are used by other manufacturers.
Manufacturing represents more than 10% of Canada’s total GDP, and Canadian manufacturers account for 68% of all of Canada’s merchandise exports. Manufacturing remains a strong and growing sector in Cornwall. According to the 2016 Census, nearly 10% of the Cornwall workforce was employed in the sector, more per capita than Ontario as a whole.
