Cornwall on the Road to the World Juniors

Cornwall Ontario – The 2025 World Junior Championship is just weeks away, and Cornwall joins other Eastern Ontario communities in hosting teams – and games – on the Road to the World Juniors.

Team Slovakia and Team Finland will arrive in Cornwall in mid-December and will hold their pre-tournament training camps as they prepare for the tournament puck drop in Ottawa on December 26. The training camps will be held at the Cornwall Civic Complex and the Benson Centre.

“Once again, the City of Cornwall is proud to be hosting teams from around the world as part of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship”, said Cornwall Mayor Justin Towndale. “We value our continued partnership with Hockey Canada, and look forward to showcasing our community as we host the training camps and games.”

Two Exhibition Games in Cornwall

In addition to the training camps, Cornwall will be hosting 2 exhibition games at the Cornwall Civic Complex:

  • Friday December 20th at 7 pm : Finland vs Slovakia
  • Monday December 23rd at 4pm : USA vs Finland

Tickets for the two exhibition games in Cornwall are on sale now at the Benson Centre and Cornwall Aquatic Centre Box Office, as well as online through TicketPro:

Eastern Ontario Hockey

Other Ontario communities hosting pre-tournament camps ahead of the holiday hockey tradition include Arnprior (Latvia), Belleville (Czechia and Sweden) Brockville (Switzerland), Carleton Place (Kazakhstan), Kingston (United States) and Ottawa (Canada and Germany).

“This year’s World Juniors will celebrate hockey in Eastern Ontario, and we are thrilled to have these communities play host to practices and games leading up to Boxing Day,” said Dean McIntosh, senior vice president of revenue, fan experience and community impact for Hockey Canada. “We know fans and volunteers in each community take immense pride in welcoming the world, and we look forward to seeing the excitement build as the 10 teams prepare to compete for a gold medal in our Nation’s Capital.”

About the World Juniors

The IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), often referred to as the World Juniors, is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world. It is traditionally held from Boxing Day to early January and attracts the top hockey players in this age category.
