A New Way to Thrift

Cornwall Ontario – Downtown Cornwall has welcomed a new shop specializing in thrifted and gently used clothing for fashion and cost-savvy enthusiasts.

The Pound Pitt

The Pound Pitt, located at 228 Pitt Street, offers a unique shopping experience where second-hand clothing is priced by weight. The store features a wide selection of men’s, women’s, and children’s apparel, including vintage pieces, recognizable name brands, and one‑of‑a‑kind finds waiting to be discovered.

By using a weight‑based pricing model, the shop aims to keep clothing affordable for individuals and families alike. Various pricing tiers are clearly displayed, with the shop owners available to help customers estimate and calculate their total before checkout.

Co-owners, Kelly Matos and Mathieu Papineau say their vision extends beyond opening a retail space.

“[We hope] to create something meaningful for our community: a place where families can find affordable and quality clothing, where everyone feels welcome, and where saving money doesn’t mean sacrificing style,” says Mr. Matos.

The couple’s background in construction and retail management is evident throughout the store. Easy‑to‑follow signage, thoughtful layout, and custom fixtures—hand‑built by Mathieu—help create an accessible and intuitive shopping experience.

The Pound Pitt also brings a sense of playfulness to thrifting, promoting what the owners describe as “a new way to thrift.” Clothing is sorted by category in spacious bins, encouraging customers to explore and experiment with endless styling possibilities. New inventory is added daily, with Facebook “previews” offering sneak peeks at incoming clothing drops.

As the business grows, Matos and Papineau hope to expand their offerings, with plans to introduce jewelry and accessories in the coming weeks.

The Pound Pitt is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More information and updates can be found on the shop’s Facebook page.
