Entrepreneurs Launch 13 New Summer Companies
June 24, 2015Cornwall Ontario – Thirteen students from Cornwall, SDG and Akwesasne are turning their business ideas into reality this summer through Ontario’s Summer Company program.
The businesses were officially launched at a kick-off celebration today at the Cornwall Staples Store. Dozens of people had the chance to meet with meet the young entrepreneurs and learn about their businesses.
Summer Company encourages students to start and run their own business. In return, participants receive $3,000 in start-up funding assistance along with hands-on coaching and mentoring from local business leaders. The young adults were selected to participate in the local program after completing detailed business plans, including marketing and financial projections.
“This program provides a great opportunity for our participants to develop entrepreneurial skills while making money at the same time,” said Candy Pollard, Business Consultant with the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. “Through Summer Company, we are helping to train the business leaders of tomorrow.”
This year’s Summer Company participants will provide a diverse range of products and services, ranging from lawn maintenance to website and photography, from tennis lessons to natural body scrubs. Profiles of the new companies can be accessed on the following links:

Summer Company is fully funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, and administered by the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. This year, the program is supported with a special sponsorship from Staples.
