Cornwall Ontario – The Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce is launching a new platform to support local festivals and events for the summer of 2021.

GetCurrent.ca

GetCurrent.ca is an online hub to purchase tickets to local events and festivals in Cornwall, Akwesasne, and SDG. The website will support both the event organizers and the event attendees faced with new challenges for re-opening in the summer of 2021 due to COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings.

“Due to its genuinely local operation, GetCurrent.ca will differ from other event hosting websites available in the market today,” says Greg Pietersma, Executive Director of the Cornwall and Area Chamber of Commerce. “GetCurrent.ca offers complete control to the event organizer from the beginning of the event to the end. It will also provide promotional abilities to local businesses, and it is supported locally.”

GetCurrent.ca will provide solutions for event organizers to post their event dates and details, sell tickets, and monitor their ticket sales. Accompanied by the app, using GetCurrent.ca will allow event organizers to administer virtual e-tickets to consumers that can be scanned upon entry. Once scanned, the event organizers will be able to easily track how many attendees are currently at the event.

GetCurrent.ca will also benefit many surrounding businesses, including main street and rural businesses. When a new event is added, GetCurrent.ca will use the event’s location to connect consumers to nearby amenities. This will be a key feature for any event-goers looking for a nearby restaurant, gas station, hotel or other businesses that may be of interest. Furthermore, businesses in the surrounding area that offer specials and discounts for festival weekends will have the opportunity to advertise them on GetCurrent.ca.

GetCurrent.ca is set to launch in Spring of 2021. It will be made available to non-profit and for-profit events alike and is free to use for a limited time. The project has been made possible with funding from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, Invest Ottawa, the Cornwall & the Counties Futures Development Corporation, and the Technology Innovation Program
