Cornwall Community Hospital Receives Stellar Accreditation Results
October 24, 2019Cornwall Ontario – The Cornwall Community Hospital has once again been awarded top marks by Accreditation Canada.
The Accreditation with Exemplary Standing award is the highest level of performance and it comes following an intensive review of the Hospital. The onsite survey occurred at the end of September where a team of four surveyors observed the care being provided to the patients, talked to staff, patients and their families and reviewed charts, policies and processes. Of the 2169 quality criteria that were applicable to the Hospital’s environment, there were only 15 that were unmet which means a 99.3% compliance rate.
In addition to the standards criteria, there are 29 Required Organizational Practices that have to be met at all levels and in multiple departments. These are verified during the onsite survey with tests for compliance completed throughout several areas of the hospital. All 29 of these were met, along with each test for compliance.
“I would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication made by staff and physicians on a continuous basis to provide exceptional care, always. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement,” expressed Jeanette Despatie, President and CEO of Cornwall Hospital. “CCH is committed to continually improving our services. That’s why we voluntarily participate in accreditation with Accreditation Canada, to learn what we are doing well, and where we can improve.”
The Cornwall Community Hospital has participated in the Accreditation Canada process for a number of years.
“The medical staff of CCH are proud of our collaboration, teamwork and culture,” said Dr. Lorne Scharf, Chief of Staff. “We are focused on making patient care exceptional, and we are pleased that Accreditation Canada agrees that we have!”

About the Cornwall Community Hospital
The Cornwall Community Hospital has historical roots that reach back beyond Confederation to 1897. Cornwall Community Hospital was incorporated in 2004 with the amalgamation of the Cornwall General Hospital and the Hotel Dieu Hospital, both with over 100 years of health care service to Cornwall and surrounding area. With the completion of a major redevelopment project in 2014, and the construction the Addiction and Mental Health Centre at the end of 2016, the hospital consolidated all acute care and community based services on the McConnell avenue site. Having everything on one campus positions the hospital well to serve its community for many years to come.
