Cornwall Ontario – After more than three decades in the iconic Seaway Building in Downtown Cornwall, the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority (GLPA) has moved its Headquarters and Operations Center to the DEV Centre.

Great Lakes Pilotage Authority

The relocation is part of GLPA’s ongoing efforts to ensure a safe, efficiency, reliable and sustainable Pilotage Services along with its administrative functions. The relocation does not change the delivery of pilotage services, dispatch procedures, billing processes, or operational communications.

The DEV Centre was selected as it is a modern facility that supports current and future logistical operations, safety and security platform, and technology requirements.

About the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority

The Great Lakes Pilotage Authority is a Government of Canada non-agent Crown corporation established pursuant to the Pilotage Act in order to provide economic, safe, reliable and comprehensive marine pilotage and related services in its region of responsibility. Pilots operate and manage the safe pilotage of sea vessels through the Great Lakes waterways. As a regulatory agency responsible for navigation in the Great Lakes region, it administers a certification system to provide reasonable reassurance the safe passage of ships in the region.

About the St. Lawence Seaway

The St. Lawrence marine corridor plays a key role in Canada’s economy and supply chain. Some 8,000 commercial vessels sail this marine highway every year, carrying more than 100 million tonnes of cargo. The geography as well as the unique physical attributes and water dynamics of the St. Lawrence challenge the commercial ships transiting through this maritime route in more than one way.

The St. Lawrence River is one of the world’s major rivers, flowing into the estuary and gulf that shares the same name. It provides nearly 1,200 kilometres of navigable waters that link the Great Lakes and the heart of North America to the Atlantic Ocean, acting as a vital artery for Canada’s economy and supply chain.

About the DEV Centre

Located on 75 scenic acres along the St. Lawrence River, the DEV Hotel & Conference Centre offers the perfect setting for weekend getaways, conferences and special events.  In addition to over 500 guest rooms, the facility has an onsite restaurant, pub, fitness centre, spa and other amenities.
