Cornwall Ontario – Laminacorr Industries is introducing a bursary program to help female students in the region continue their studies at college or university in the field of business.

In Canada, fewer than one in six enterprises (16 %) are majority-owned by women, and women-owned enterprises tend to be smaller than male-owned enterprises, although the difference varies by industry, according to Statistics Canada’s Business Development Bank of Canada 2014 data.

Compared to their male counterparts, women entrepreneurs face unique barriers. It may also be more difficult for women entrepreneurs to receive training and find mentorship.

Guy Robichaud, Founder and President of Laminacorr, wants to support the creation and growth of women-led businesses.

“We believe our communities are enriched by entrepreneurs with different backgrounds, experiences and global relationships,” says Mr. Robichaud. “Drawing on recommendations made by the Canada-United States Council for Advancement of Women Entrepreneurs and Business Leaders, we decided to motive future entrepreneurs to make the right choice early and pursue post-secondary education in business.”

Laminacorr will award three (3) grants to eligible graduates from all high schools in Cornwall, Ontario. A committee will rank all submissions based on the letters provided. The student that is awarded the first place will receive $1000, while the second and third place will each receive $750 and $350 receptively. To be eligible a student must:

  • Write a letter describing their post-secondary education and career aspirations and a short explanation of why they believe they deserve such a scholarship.
  • Have enrolled at a college or university to obtain a certificate of studies or a university degree in the field of business (finance, accounting, human resources, management, marketing, and others) or have a project of business after completing post-secondary education, and
  • Have proven leadership or entrepreneurial skills.

Eligible students can send their completed letter by email to scomtois@laminacorr.com or by mail to Laminacorr’s office before June 7, 2019. If you are part of a scholarship committee and need more information, please contact Samuel Comtoois at 613-933-1503.
