Today, Mayor Justin Towndale released the following statement:

“As a member of the Border Mayors Alliance, I stand with my peers in opposing these unjustified tariffs. These tariffs are not only detrimental to the Canadian economy, but the United States economy as well.

The City of Cornwall has long valued its strong relationships with communities across the border, especially those in northern New York. We are an economic region, and our partnership with our neighbours to the south has been the cornerstone of our mutual prosperity and well-being for decades.

I am committed to working to protect and support our local economy, including our local businesses and residents. We will continue to engage with our partners across the border to stop this trade war. We will also continue our work to find ways that we, as a municipal government, can support local businesses at this time.”
