Cornwall Ontario – Over 700 runners from throughout Ontario, Quebec and beyond will be in Cornwall this weekend to participate in the Run to endMS on Saturday April 28. It will be the largest field ever in the 17 years the event has been held.

“The majority of the runners are coming from outside of the region,” says Phil Barnes, Race Director. “Some are travelling from quite far away, including Dubai and the Phillipines, and we are looking forward to welcoming them to Cornwall.”

Participants can take part in four different events including a 5K, 10K, 1/2 marathon, and marathon. This will be the third year for the marathon, which is proving very popular as it is a qualifying race for the Boston Marathon. As one of the first races of the year, runners use Cornwall’s race as a barometer to see how they are doing in their training.

The 5k, 10k and half-marathon depart from St. Lawrence College on Saturday. The route runs through Le Village along Montreal Road until McConnell, turning south and continuing west on Cotton Mill Street until it connects with the Waterfront Trail at Harbour Road. The full marathon race departs from Crysler Park Marina and travels east along the Waterfront Trail to finish in Cornwall at St. Lawrence College.

“The local sporting community has really stepped forward to help put this event on,” says Mr. Barnes. “We simply could not do this without their support.”

The weekend is all for a good cause, raising funds for the local chapter of the MS Society.

“Each year we raise over $25,000 and we expect to surpass that number again this year,” said Karen Torrie-Racine, Volunteer Office Co-Ordinator the Cornwall and District Chapter. “Everyone is welcome to come down and cheer on the participants.”

About the Cause
