Cornwall Ontario – Robert Martin’s dream of getting into the fishing business started out with a four-foot wall display in his longstanding Cornwall business, Flowers Cornwall.

Today, a little more than a year later, Tight Lines Tackle is a fully stocked fishing equipment and apparel shop serving a dedicated base of local anglers and many more from beyond the region.

To use a fishing term, Martin has landed a prize catch.

“I never thought we’d be here (so quickly),” said Mr. Martin of the recently-opened store, which is located at the rear of the Flowers Cornwall building at 1325 Pitt Street. “It’s been really good. We’ve had great support from local anglers but we are also drawing a lot of out-of-town customers as well.”

The store’s wide selection of unique products from companies like Megabass, Shimano and others are helping to draw fishing enthusiasts from Quebec, the Greater Toronto Area and beyond.

“We have a variety of medium to high-end (fishing) products that are unique in Canada and that’s helping to draw a lot of people to our store,” says Mr. Martin. “We carry products that are difficult to find.”

Mr. Martin said he does welcome a lot of tournament anglers to the store, but he also carries a wide assortment of products that also cater to those who are brand new or just beginning to cast their line into the world of fishing.

“Fishing is for everybody, and we have products to cater to all levels and abilities,” he added.

The 750 square-foot shop has a bit of everything, from rods and reels to tackle, plastic baits, equipment and more. Tight Lines Tackle also carries fishing apparel which has proven to be quite popular, Martin said.

Fans of ice fishing can also find some supplies at the shop.

In addition to the physical space, Tight Lines Tackle has a complete online shop set up through its website.

Tight Lines Tackle is open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 am to 5 pm, Thursday and Friday from 10 am to 6 pm and Saturday from 9 am to 5 pm (closed Sunday and Monday).
