Cornwall Ontario – The St. Lawrence Power Development Visitor Centre is now open for another summer season filled with exciting activities and events.

Equipped with a variety of video presentations and displays on hydroelectric, thermal and nuclear generation, safety around power facilities and the American eel, the Visitor Centre recounts the fascinating history of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Power Projects.

The environmentally-friendly building is fitted with many hands-on models and offers an  educational outing for people of all ages. Visitors can chase a virtual eel up a ladder, spin a turbine to make electricity, or be an operator for a day and balance power production with the needs of other river users.

The Visitor Centre’s strategic location on the banks of the St. Lawrence River also allows visitors to enjoy magnificent views of the R.H. Saunders Generating Station.

New Display

The new display “Indigenous Creations of the Natural World” features artifacts and archeological findings that reflect Mohawk and Native American culture. The artifacts, all hand-made and created from natural materials found in the environment, include pottery, musical instruments, and lacrosse sticks.  The exhibit is presented in partnership with the Native North American Travelling College.
