Waterfest returns to Cornwall Canal
August 4, 2019Cornwall Waterfest returns on Saturday, August 10th to the historic Cornwall Canal in the city’s west end.
The main feature of the event is the popular dragon boat races. The ancient vessels are steered up the canal by teams of paddlers working in rhythm with each other and a drummer at the bow. It’s an amazing sight for spectators and a unique experience for participants.
“It’s a fun day for the participants and the spectators alike,” said Lea Emard, Waterfest Committee Chair. “It’s the only festival that has access to the historic canal so it’s special to see it being used and drawing people to our waterfront.”
This year’s races will begin at 9 am and there will be a mix of recreational and competitive teams, including some from Ottawa.
To add to the festival experience, the dragon boat races are complemented by food and artisan vendors and live entertainment throughout the day.
“Paddlers and spectators can refuel with a delicious snack from a food vendor or pick up a unique souvenir from an artisan vendor,” Mrs. Emard said. “The live entertainment keeps everyone energized throughout the day. It’s free for spectators to attend.”
