Workshop Seeks to Help Businesses Increase Exports

January 10, 2019
By Bob Peters

Cornwall Ontario – Cornwall and area companies looking to increase their export activities will want to attend an upcoming workshop sponsored by the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium.

EMC Workshop Cornwall

Entitled Business Growth Through Exporting the 2-hour event is scheduled for 8am on January 22 at MPIQC on Campbell Street in the Cornwall Business Park.

The event is part of the Strategic Interest Groups series of networking events put on by the Excellence in Manufacturing Consortium (EMC), a non profit organization helping Canadian manufacturers.

“As always, these sessions are a wonderful means in which to learn and engage in discussion relating to the topic at hand while connecting with your fellow peers in industry!” says Bren de Leeuw, Interim Field Service Advisor with EMC.

Building export awareness can lead to new markets, the generation of innovative products, plant floor process improvements, and enhanced labour productivity. OEC reported that Canada ranked 11th in the world for exports in 2016 and for 2018, and economic groups are predicting Canadian companies will have exported close to $530 Billion of product to countries around the world.

“If you are interested in exploring exporting opportunities there are a number of great organizations providing tools, resources and funding for those looking to expand markets across the globe,” noted Ms. de Leeuw.

Presenting at the workshop will be the following organizations:

Export Development Canada
In 2017 EDC helped nearly 9,400 Canadian companies do business in most markets around the world – providing insurance and financial services, bonding products and small business solutions for Canadian exporters and investors and their international buyers.

Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade
MEDJCT offers services to help Ontario companies expand their business globally including exporter preparation programs, one-on-one advisory services, international trade missions, incoming buyer missions, market intelligence, financial assistance, in-market support in key export markets, and assistance to access the broader ecosystem of organizations supporting Ontario’s exporters.

Trade Commissioner Service
The Trade Commissioner Service helps companies that are looking to export, invest abroad, attract investment abroad or develop innovation and R&D partnerships. They can provide advice on marketing strategies and up to date market and sector information.

Magnet Export Business Portal
A first-of-its-kind in North America, the Magnet Export Business Portal harnesses intelligent matching technology to help our members navigate and identify relevant export-related funding, events, trade missions and resources.
