Here’s to your health

No matter where you live, access to quality healthcare is important. Unfortunately, for residents of many urban satellite communities and outlying regions, the nearest hospital is more than 30 minutes away. Not so in Cornwall. Our city is home to a modern hospital with almost 400 beds and roughly 1,000 healthcare professionals, so you are never far from the assistance you need.

Cornwall Community Hospital is an acute care hospital providing everything from ambulatory to emergency services, from paediatrics to palliative care. Centrally located on a 25-acre site, the Hospital has recently been renovated as part of an ongoing major redevelopment project.

The hospital is supported by St. Joseph’s Continuing Care Centre, which operates a long-term care home with complex continuing care services. St. Joe’s recently opened a brand new 209-bed facility located on York Street in the downtown core.

More than 80 physicians and 25 dentists have a practice in Cornwall, and they are supported by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, 3 nursing services, a growing number of nursing homes and senior residences, and the Community Care Access Centre.

The City of Cornwall is also the designated delivery agent for Land Ambulance Service. As an integral component of the regional 9-1-1 system, Emergency Medical Services provides 24-hour, 365-day emergency coverage to the city and the region. Their paramedics are highly trained and skilled in the pre-hospital management of a wide spectrum of emergencies. A new headquarters for the EMS operation was just opened in Cornwall in the summer of 2011.

You can rest assured, your family will always get the care they need — when and where they need it.

New Look, New Hospital

The Cornwall Community Hospital is currently undergoing a $120 million redevelopment that will result in a new hospital for Cornwall and Eastern Ontario.

With its bright, modern new facade on McConnell Street, the 88,442 square-foot addition will house a larger Emergency Department, Day Surgery, Diagnostic Imaging, Surgical Suite and support services. Increased capacity means the ability to offer more services and deal with higher patient volumes; reducing line-ups, delays and the need to travel for primary patient care.

The new modern facility will give our dedicated health care professionals the up- to- date working environment they need to provide quality medical care for the next several decades.
