Manufacturing Celebrated this October
October 1, 2026Cornwall Ontario – The importance of manufacturing to the economy is being celebrated this October, which is known across North America as Manufacturing Month.

Manufacturing is an important sector in Cornwall, with dozens of companies employing hundreds of workers. Cornwall companies produce products ranging from circuit boards to heart catheters, bacon to breakfast bars, from vinyl fabric to industrial tape. It includes small operators to major steel fabricators. It is a sector that regularly invests modern technological advancements.
“With stable infrastructure, a well-trained workforce, tax credits and specialized manufacturing research and development, Ontario is enabling a vibrant and diverse manufacturing sector to thrive in the province,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “The sector has strengths in the automotive, food processing, life sciences, aerospace and chemicals sectors, among others.”
On a related note, the Ontario government, in partnership with Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters (CME), has further announced October 1 as Manufacturing Day. The day celebrates Ontario’s manufacturers, their hard-working employees, and a collective commitment to ensuring that Ontario maintains its status as the economic engine of Canada. October is also Small Business Month, with many manufacturers being small to medium enterprises.
Manufacturing Day kicks off a full month of activities to celebrate all Ontario-based manufacturers, from the small 3D print shop to the large automaker. This is also an opportunity for young people to learn about the high-value, high-tech, high-skilled and high-paying career opportunities manufacturing offers, especially as the province begins to make the next generation of vehicles.
Ontario Made
To promote manufacturing in Ontario, the government supported the CME’s launch of the Ontario Made program. This program makes it easier for shoppers to identify and purchase products made right here at home. The program includes thousands of registered manufacturers and products.
Career Opportunities
A healthy manufacturing sector is critical to Ontario’s long-term economic prosperity. The next generation of workers to look to manufacturing as a viable and successful career option. The Cornwall Campus of St. Lawrence College has programming and trades courses including welding, carpentry, millwright.
