Cornwall Ontario – A new outdoor Pop-Up Shop rental program has been launched to allow for small business vendor sales and not-for-profit community outreach in the heart of Cornwall.

Pop-Up Shop Cornwall

Located at Cornwall Square and Port Theater, the Shops use small sea-can shipping containers and will serve as a temporary storefront location for small retailers, artisans, artists, or non-profit associations currently permitted to operate under Ontario’s reopening legislation.

The Shops have been painted by local artists, creating a unique piece of urban art.

“I am so proud to see this unique initiative take place in partnership with our incredible arts community,” said Mayor Bernadette Clement. “Please show your support by renting a container or popping by to shop.”

Each shop is available to be rented on a daily basis for as low as $20 per day, subject to certain restrictions. The containers measure 10 ft cubed and come equipped with basic accessories like tables, chairs, a plexiglass shield, and umbrella. Renters are invited to bring additional shelving, racks, and tents to build out the space and create their mini shop.

“We wanted to make renting one of the pop-up shops as easy as possible for our local businesses and community groups so we have fitted each unit with some basic supplies,” explains Mark Boileau, General Manager for Planning, Development, and Recreation.  “Rental fees are also very reasonable and include access to the container, the pop-up supplies, and basic insurance.”

Commercial beauty products, food and beverage, resident garage sale, and personal care services such as massage therapy or hair styling are not be permitted at this time due to public health regulations.

Special consideration has been made for COVID-19.  Renters will be expected to practice 2-metre physical distancing and wear a mask or face guard when not protected by a physical barrier. They are also expected to sanitize their hands and the space regularly while in use.  Cornwall staff will also thoroughly sanitize each Pop-Up Shop and the supplies between bookings.
