St. Lawrence College Offering Free Construction Programs

Cornwall Ontario – Want to work in the construction industry but not sure how or where to find a job? Start with free training from St. Lawrence College!

Construction Training Programs Cornwall

St. Lawrence College is offering two free training courses this fall:

  • Construction and Safety Solutions
  • Intro to Carpentry Techniques

“Both programs are designed to help increase qualifications and skills for entry into the construction industry,” says Beth Steel, Project Coordinator for St. Lawrence College. “Employment in the Canadian construction industry is growing and is expected to top 1.5 million Canadians by the year 2025. There has never been a better time to start a career in construction.”

Construction and Safety Solutions

The Construction and Safety Solutions program is a full time 1-week training course held in Cornwall at the Ramada Inn. It runs from September 13 to September 17, 2021. Training includes instruction in topics such as traffic control, mobile elevated work platform, working from heights, confined space awareness, hazard awareness, ergonomics in construction, WHMIS, violence and harassment, job coaching an development. All PPE provided. The registration deadline is September 9.

Intro to Carpentry Techniques

The Intro to Carpentry Techniques program is a full time 12 week training course held on the Kingston Campus of St. Lawrence College. It runs from September 7 to December 12, 2021. Participants will receive a comprehensive instruction in a wide variety of construction techniques. Tuition, books and tools are free. Cornwall students will receive assistance in finding jobs in Cornwall following completion of the course.

Eligibility

  • Participants must be 18 yrs or older
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
    Unemployed or underemployed
  • Not in school
  • Interested in a career in construction.

Both programs are free to qualified participants and are funded by the Skills Advance Ontario program.  Each program also includes job development and job search assistance.
