Cornwall Ontario – Local artisans, small business owners and non-profit organizations can now reserve their spot in Cornwall’s pop-up shops before they officially open in two weeks.

The unique shops quickly become popular with local residents and helped draw people to Downtown Cornwall. This year, the pop-up shops are scheduled to re-open May 18th, just in time for the long weekend.

“I’m pleased to see the Pop-Up Shop program return for another year,” said Mayor Glen Grant. “Not only have the pop-ups created new opportunities for small businesses and groups in our community, but they have also added vibrancy of the downtown core.”

The shops made waves when they opened at the Pop-Up Parkette near the Cornwall Square in 2020.  Since then, they have been used by over 200 different vendors and community organizations.

“This program was developed to relieve some of the pandemic restrictions facing small businesses and social groups in our community,” said Mr. James Fawthrop, Manager of Facilities and Recreation. “Although most provincial restrictions have been lifted, the overall success of the program has encouraged us to continue offering the program this season.”

The turn-key shops are available to rent starting at $20+HST a day.  The turn-key units come with tables, chairs, a patio umbrella, a plexiglass barrier, and sanitizing supplies.  Full eligibility details are online however commercial beauty products, food and beverage, resident garage sales, and personal care services are not permitted.

How To Book Online – Webinar May 16th

New and returning users are invited to join the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre (CBEC) on Monday, May 16th at 2 p.m. for an interactive webinar about program eligibility and an explanation for how to book online.

“The best way to evaluate the viability of a product is to test the market”, said Shauna Baggs, Business Consultant with the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. “Taking advantage of a Pop-Shop gives small business owners the opportunity to meet customers in a high-traffic area without significant overhead cost”.
