New Retailers Coming to Cornwall Square
January 25, 2024Cornwall, Ontario – A new yet familiar retailer will soon be offering its wares to local residents, as Urban Planet is slated to return to Cornwall Square.
The coveted fashion retailer will resume its position as an anchor tenant at the Downtown mall, and this time it will be joined by two of its popular sister brands: Urban Kids and Forever 21.
Before shuttering in 2021 due to the global pandemic, Urban Planet alone had occupied 18,000 square feet of the former Sears store on the upper level of Cornwall Square. In late 2023, the parent company for the brands, YM Inc., leased the entire 45,000 square foot upper-level space, signaling confidence in Cornwall’s appetite for fashion.
“We are thrilled to welcome Urban Planet back to Cornwall Square, and equally excited to have Urban Kids and Forever 21 join them too,” said Tom Hughes, Vice-President of WBG. “We’re delivering on our promise to provide employment opportunities to residents and to revitalize the city’s favourite mall.”
Unique in size and concept, Urban Planet is one of the fastest growing fashion brands in Canada, with more than 100 locations across the country.
YM Inc. took over the keys for the space on January 15, 2024; implementation of their design plans, installation of fixtures, and merchandising displays will be completed in time for their grand opening in early March 2024.
For its part, WBG invested in the retail space by installing modern, efficient LED lighting, refreshing the existing carpeting, and enclosing the escalator. This expenditure is in addition to a $1.9-million injection in the upper-level Food Hall and an LED lighting conversion project in the mall, now underway.
