Tourism Development Fund Supports Summer Events
October 6, 2022Cornwall Ontario – A number of new events and projects have received support from the Tourism Development Corporation of Cornwall (TDCC).
Between May and September a total of $104, 615 has been invested in the community from the Tourism Development Fund, allowing businesses and event organizers to increase marketing outside the City as well as improve the overall tourist experience. The net result is increased tourism activity leading to greater positive impact on the local economy, with the potential of generating more repeat visitors.
“It’s wonderful to be able to support so many great events and businesses to further develop the tourism industry in Cornwall and the surrounding areas,” shares Dale Allen TDCC President. “The dedication and commitment to the growth of our community shown by the many applicants is outstanding and extremely encouraging for the future of tourism in Cornwall.”
The TDCC received 16 requests for funding in the last 5 months and were able to fund 14 of those applications. The awarded funds were allocated as follows:
- Cornwall Art Walk – $5,000
- Cornwall Pride 2022 – $2,175
- Cornwall Wildcats AAA – $10,000
- Cornwall Ribfest – $19,203
- Cornwall Triathlon – $10,000
- Monkland Gets Ambushed – $1,175
- Renegade Bass Tournament – $12,280
- Fields of Gold – $11,500
- Ghost Walk for Charity – $2,750
- Woven Woods – $4,000
- Apples & Art – $2,332
- Franny Cup – $5,600
- Cornwall Girls Hockey Tournaments – $15,000
- Cornwall Comedy Festival – $3,600
The Tourism Development Fund is generated from the proceeds of the Municipal Accommodation Tax. The approximate amount of funding available each year is $300,000 and the intake of applications is on going. Applications are first reviewed by a committee of industry experts with final decisions made by the TDCC Board.
Eligibility for funding is outlined on CornwallTourism.com, and interested parties can contact Amy Malyon, Tourism Development Officer for further assistance with the application process if required. Applicants are required to submit their application at least three months in advance of their project date.
